Winter 2021/22 – Status 17 NOVEMBER 2021

The essentials at a glance

In times of coronavirus, many winter activities are subject to special safety measures and regulations. You will need to show proof of vaccination, past infection or a negative test to access many areas.

In general, Austria is working with a 3-stage model, with stricter rules going into effect depending on the Coronavirus situation. At the moment, stage 2 is in effect.

Stage 2 (valid from 08 November 2021)

  • Proof of vaccination or past infection required for night clubs, après-ski, and events without assigned seating with more than 500 attendees
  • Antigen self-tests no longer accepted as proof (e.g. for restaurants, Christmas markets etc.)

According to the Austrian law, the 2G rule applies from the age of 12 years.

VACCINATED
As it currently stands, anyone who has been fully vaccinated with AstraZeneca, Johnson & Johnson, BioNTech/Pfizer or Moderna is considered vaccinated. From 03.01.22 the Johnson & Johnson vaccine is only valid with a second vaccination in Austria. From 06.12.21 the validity of the second vaccination is reduced to 270 days.

RECOVERED
Recovered persons are those who have been confirmed by the authority as having tested positive. The recovery certificate is valid for six months - at the earliest from the 11th day after the first molecular confirmation of the infection (by means of a PCR test) until 180 days thereafter. An antibody detection certificate is no longer valid.

CHILDREN
Children at the age of 11 and younger are excluded from the 2G rule. The 2G rule applies to children 12 years and older. Children from the age of 12 must therefore have a vaccination or a recovery certificate. According to the Austrian law this applies to all areas such as the access to hotel, restaurants & also to the cable cars.

We are also subject to the official regulations of the Austrian Federal Government. Therefore, we ask for your understanding that we are not yet able to provide conclusive answers to all questions. We will keep you informed as soon as the regulation is available.
